Day 6 - 19 Sept 2014
Friday, our last day of wearing formal wear! My course was the second group to go for this company: SK T.UM (South Korea Telecom Ubiquitous Museum). It has to be the most futuristic company I've ever been to!
Everything was done swiftly, with the swipe of the hands and other hand gestures (such as stretching out your hands with the palms facing the screen to select an item) It's super duper cool, and everyone were awestruck!
Sharing of photos, songs and movies were made easier. Devices will be detected once being placed on the screen of the table, and the files will be shown. Simply drag them over from one device to another, and the files were sent!
This allows us to feel how it's like to be in car but it activates somewhat similar to playing car racing in the arcade, in my own opinion. I did not get to experience it and wasn't able to catch a glimpse of what's inside, so I can't elaborate much here.
Last but not least, a group photo of us, which was also printed out and given to each and every one of us as a souvenir! Thank you SK T.UM for having us :)
Lunch was at Itaewon, a district that has got more global food due to the fact that American soldiers tend to stay here or for military training ever since the aftermath of Korean War. We saw so many shops that sell Turkish food and ice cream, and also pubs!
Up next, we reunited with the BIT kids and visited the War Memorial Museum. Not much time was spent there -- just a good 30 minutes to roam about freely to have a good view of the ship, tanks and aircraft.
Random shot of the kid named Ruby, bc we got so attracted to her curly hair and extremely fair skin. Her mom was very friendly to us, and allowed us to take photos of her daughter! She also told us to have a great day touring around Seoul :) So nice!
Soon we left for Myeongdong, and caught the Nanta Cooking Show!! Freaking cool, and I loved it so much bc I've been dying to see them perform whenever they came to Singapore. I just can't afford the ticket, sorry :(
Free time meant shopping by yourself, and we did that in pairs (and also in our group). At the last few minutes, we did some rush-hour shopping before we boarded the bus at 9PM!
As mentioned, street food wasn't cheap at all. A small bowl of non-authentic jjajangmyeon (black bean paste noodle) costed me 3,000WON (SG$3.75)?!? I find it so-not worth it! :(
View from our hotel's rooftop garden (the blue light stick tower is Namsan Seoul Tower!)
It's our last night in Seoul, and it's really unbelievable that this 8D6N study trip was coming to an end already. The night's still young to really call it a day, so of course most of us sneaked out of the hotel! Thankfully, Seoul still have places that were still opened for (mid)night shopping, such as Ewha University (most shops were closed but some decent ones were still opened at about 10PM kst), and definitely DongDaeMun!
Please try out this 50CM CACAO Churros when you're at Dongdaemun! It's one of the street snacks stall and not very hard to miss, due to its poster just right outside its stall. Cheap and yummy!
What I wore:
Top - Hongdae (I got another exact piece but of another shade of grey at Star 101 for 2,500WON lesser!! Star 101 is located at Myeongdong)
Bottom - Stylenanda (bought from a Carouseller at only SG$8!)
Basic black sling bag - Carousell
We spent most of the time shopping at Dongdaemun's Helloapm, and yes all shops were opened even at 1AM KST. Churros and shopping in the midnight... What not to love of Seoul?!
Tip: Dongdaemun is a really good place to shop if let's say you don't have enough time to do shopping in the first half of the day. Helloapm is a shopping mall that was at least 7-storey high, and its basement sells mostly guys' sneakers, and there's also a cafe, if the street snacks do not appeal to you enough. Also, try your best to bargain for good deals! However after bargaining, do expect it to still be at least 2,000WON more expensive than what you see at Myeongdong, due to their rental fees. Helloapm's mall concept is very similar Bugis Street's, in case you're missing shopping in Singapore :)
We also met many friendly sellers at Helloapm, which I'm thankful for! They wouldn't give you a sulky face when you reject them after asking for the price or one time of bargaining. :)
